Procedures listed on the Embassy's website

The Embassy's official website groups consular procedures as follows.

• Passports and travel documents: issuing and renewing ordinary passports, visas to enter Vietnam, and the 5-year visa exemption certificate.
• Nationality and Vietnamese origin: confirming Vietnamese origin, citizen registration, naturalisation and renunciation of nationality.
• Civil status: civil registration, recording in the civil status register events already registered with a foreign authority, and repatriation of remains.
• Legalisation: documents issued by Australian authorities for use in Vietnam.
• Certification: power of attorney contracts, authorisation letters, copies and translations.
• Police checks (criminal record): guidance on confirmation needed to complete an application. According to the Embassy's website, from 1 March 2025 requests are received at provincial-level police.
• Other: bringing medicines into Vietnam and frequently asked questions.

What we do in each application

• Tell you which documents you need, following the Embassy's current guidance.
• Check your application before lodging: is it complete, is it in the right order, and have foreign documents been through the necessary certification step.
• Translate documents into English or Vietnamese when the application requires it, including NAATI translations.
• Send the application by tracked post, or lodge it on your behalf where the rules allow.
• Keep you updated at each stage: sent, received, result available.
