The 5-year visa exemption certificate: who can get one and how long you can stay
People of Vietnamese origin who hold an Australian passport do not want to apply for a visa every time they visit their home country. The 5-year visa exemption certificate exists for that situation.
Who can get one
People of Vietnamese origin who currently hold a foreign passport, together with their spouse and children. For a spouse, you need a valid marriage certificate.
How long you can stay
Each entry allows a stay of up to 6 months. You can apply for one extension of up to a further 6 months.
If you do not yet have proof of Vietnamese origin
The Embassy has a separate procedure to confirm Vietnamese origin. It is best to do this step first if you no longer have your old Vietnamese passport or documents.
